One of the most innovative new safety systems to come out of Chevy’s laboratories is the new Safety Alert Seat. Believe it or not, drivers respond incredibly well to the safety seat which uses vibrations to alert the driver to danger.
At first the new system might just sound like a modified massage chair, but Chevy stands by the Safety Alert Seat’s ability to keep drivers alert. According to Chevy, the system is connected to other safety features like Lane Departure Warning, and uses tactile feedback like light “tapping” vibrations to direct the driver to potential dangers.
“Using the tactile sense to communicate crash threat direction can help cut through the clutter of visual and auditory sensory information that drivers routinely experience,” said GM Active Safety Technical Fellow Raymond J. Kiefer. “The best kinds of safety protection we can offer are customer-focused features that help drivers avoid the crash altogether, and which are kept turned on for every trip.”
The new feature has been around for a little while, but Chevy has refined the technology to make it available in many new models like the Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe. With all of the new Chevy safety technologies, the automaker is quickly becoming one of the safest on the market.
